Mental State of Ax Attack Suspect Questioned

Lawyer Sarah Hamilton said Monday in court that 48-year-old Rhonda Ravanis heard voices, including Jesus Christ and Mary, telling her to carry out April's attack

A defense attorney for a Lunenburg, Massachusetts. woman charged with attacking her live-in boyfriend with an ax says her client should be found not guilty because of her mental state at the time, which included hearing the voices of Jesus and Mary.

Lawyer Sarah Hamilton said Monday in court that 48-year-old Rhonda Ravanis heard voices, including Jesus Christ and Mary, telling her to carry out April's attack.

But Assistant District Attorney Sarah Richardson says Ravanis knew what she was doing when she attacked her 55-year-old boyfriend.

Prosecutors say the victim spent a month in the hospital with injuries to his face, neck and shoulder from the attack.

The trial is expected to continue Friday.
