More UMass Students Arrested During 2nd Sit-in

More than 250 demonstrators from the UMass Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign staged a sit-in

University of Massachusetts officials say police arrested 19 student protesters that were among those occupying an administrative building on the school's Amherst campus.

More than 250 demonstrators from the UMass Fossil Fuel Divestment Campaign staged a sit-in at the Whitmore Administration Building for the second straight night on Wednesday.

The protesters have demanded that the university sever all financial ties to fossil fuels. The campaign released a statement Tuesday that said their demands weren't met after five hours of negotiations with administrators.

Police say the 19 students booked on Wednesday were protesters who did not exit the building peacefully after a dispersal order was issued. They were charged with trespassing and were arraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court.

Fifteen protesters were similarly arrested at Tuesday night's sit-in.
