Motorcyclist Injured in Crash With Trash Truck After Pursuit in Beverly

After a police pursuit, a motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday morning in a collision with a trash collection truck in Beverly, Massachusetts, according to police.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. on Dodge Street near the North Beverly Plaza, where multiple emergency responders could be seen assessing the scene.

Police said at about 6:20 a.m., the motorcyclist had been seen going through a red light on Cabot Street then passing vehicles and speeding. Officers tried to stop the motorcyclist but due to his speed, they ended their pursuit.

It was then that the motorcyclist crossed lanes into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the trash collection truck which had been stopped at a red light.

The 27-year-old motorcyclist, who has not been publicly identified, was first taken to Beverly Hospital, and then to Lahey Hospital where he is said to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The state police reconstruction team was working with Beverly police on the investigation.
