‘It Looked Horrible': 3 Injured In Fiery Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-495

The victims were hospitalized with what state police said are believed to be non-life threatening injuries

Three people were hospitalized following a fiery crash involving three tractor-trailers and a pickup truck on Interstate 495 in Berlin, Massachusetts.

State police said the crash was reported at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday on I-495 south near Route 62, prompting authorities to close the road for several hours — causing significant delays for commuters.

One of the tractor-trailers involved caught fire after the crash. Aerial views of the scene showed that vehicle had been reduced to rubble.

The pickup truck was towing an empty horse trailer.

"I heard a few explosions. It looked horrible," said Adam Chance, who was in a tour bus behind the vehicles involved at the time of the crash. "I'm just shocked and very thankful that nobody was killed."

Motorists were diverted to Exit 26 while crews worked to clean up fuel that spilled onto the road. As of 9:20 a.m., the interstate was reopened.

The victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police.

The crash remained under investigation.
