Neighbors Band Together as Power Outages Continue

A hot chicken meal, heat and a charging station were all free at a Massachusetts church Friday night as it welcomed those impacted by outages.

Weary people without power were more than thankful for the Tewksbury Congregational Church's hospitality.

“A lot of people are just sitting in their houses being cold so, it’s an opportunity to come out, get warm, get a meal and see some other people,” said Bruce Panilaitis.

Ron Gigliotti lives across the street.

“I live in the housing for elderly and we are in our 70s and 80s and we have nothing -- No lights, no nothing -- and some of the apartments are only 45 degrees,” he said.

For those elderly residents, power has since been restored as of Friday night.

But Framingham is another area hit hard.

There have been reports of snow-laden pines falling down onto power lines.

“A lot of severe damage," said Bob Kelleher, a senior line supervisor for Eversource."This is surprisingly one of the worst storms. I’ve been through a couple of hurricanes."

Kelleher says crews have come from as far away as Canada to help out, and they are working nonstop.

Some of his own line workers don’t even have power at home, either.

“It’s all on a list, and we don’t control where we go for the next job,” he said.
