Officials Prepare for Fourth of July Show in Boston

Preparations are underway on Boston's Esplanade for the 43rd annual Fourth of July Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular.

It is an event that attracts hundreds of thousands of people from all over. State, federal and local leaders say they have a multi-layered security plan in place — a plan that's been worked on for months.

"I think we've put together, like we always have, a comprehensive security plan to maximize safety," said Gov. Charlie Baker.

State police say that security plan includes hundreds of troopers, both in and out of uniform, the air wing and marine units on the Charles River, along with the National Guard.

Police are urging people to take public transportation, as parking will be limited and say alcohol and unruly behavior will not be tolerated.

State police have shared lists of prohibited items, roads where traffic will be impacted, access points and boating guidelines.
