Outage East of New York City Delays Amtrak Up to 2 Hours in Northeast

Amtrak says a power outage east of Penn Station in New York City is causing delays of one to two hours in the Northeast corridor.

The outage is affecting trains traveling to and from Connecticut, Boston and Maine as well.

The Amtrak website says the status for several Boston-bound trains is "currently unavailable due to a service disruption." One train reportedly left 29 minutes late and is due in to South Station 1 hour and 22 minutes behind schedule. Delays are also being reported on several New York-bound trains.

The rail service blames a problem with the overhead power system. No additional details were immediately available.

It's operating a limited diesel operation Wednesday between Penn Station and New Rochelle, New York.

Amtrak says engineers are working to restore power.
