Man Held on $75K Bail in Armed Robberies Set Up Through Dating App

A Boston man has been ordered to be held on $75,000 bail in connection with a series of armed robberies arranged through a dating app.

Rakeem Austin of Dorchester was arraigned Monday in Suffolk Superior Court on nine counts of armed robbery in connection with incidents that occurred between Oct. 2 and Nov. 21, 2015.

He was previously arraigned on six of the armed robberies in Dorchester Municipal Court.

Assistant District Attorney Greer Spataz of the DA's Special Prosecutions Unit told the court that the nine victims arranged meet ups through a dating app, expecting to meet a woman who went by the user name "Lizzy S" or "Candy B."

The victims encountered Austin, who had a handgun. He stole items including cash, wallets, cell phones and jewelry.

Austin will return to court April 22.

Officials have not said which app was used.
