PD: Police Cruiser Totaled in OUI Crash in Saugus, Mass.

The crash happened just before midnight on Route 1 northbound

Police in Saugus, Massachusetts, say a drunk driver slammed into a police cruiser late Wednesday night.

The crash happened just before midnight on Route 1 northbound.

A Revere police officer was working there when he was rear ended, causing the vehicle to roll over, totalling it.

The driver, 43-year-old Denny Miller of Newburyport, was arrested for OUI 2nd offense, Failure to Move Over for Emergency Vehicle and Failure to Take Care in Stopping/Starting.

Police say he ignored all signs to move over.

The officer was taken to the Massachusetts General Hospital, but is expected to be okay.

Marking the fourth such incident involving alleged drunk drivers and work details on highways, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation released a statement that read in part, "Impaired drivers are a menace on our roads regardless of whether there is a work zone in place or not. We ask the public to not drink and drive."

The state's transportation agency added they're convening a meeting with other state departments to discuss the recent string of incidents.
