Peabody Car vs. Utility Pole

Police were on scene Monday morning responding to the crash.

On Monday morning a car crashed into a utility pole on Route 1 southbound in Peabody, Massachusetts.

According to the Massachusetts State Police there are wires down on both the north and southbound sides of Route 1.

The woman who caused the accident merged into the right lane and did not notice the other vehicle.

The second vehicle swerved and struck the utility pole.

According to police, one person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. 

The other occupants were evaluated but not taken. 

The driver of the first vehicle is being cited with a marked lanes violation, no arrests have been made. 

Police confirm Route 1 southbound at Winona Street was closed.

On the northbound side, traffic was being diverted onto Route 1 southbound at the jug hangle.

The ramp from 95 southbound was also closed. 

Police expected the northbound side to remain closed for 1-2 hours and 4-5 hours for the southbound side. 

Around 3pm Monday afternoon Route 1 northbound reopened. One lane is also on Route 1 southbound.
