Pedestrian Struck and Killed

Fatal crash took place on the eastbound side of Memorial Drive in Cambridge

State police are investigating after a pedestrian walking along Memorial Drive in Cambridge was struck and killed by a car.

The 50-year-old man from Boston was struck at about 7 a.m. Tuesday. He was taken by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say he was struck by a Honda Accord driven by a 24-year-old Brighton man in the eastbound lanes.

The reason why the pedestrian was on the roadway is unknown at this time and is part of the investigation.

No names were released.

Memorial Drive east was closed for about two hours but has since reopened.
