Man, 53, Fatally Hit by Commuter Train in Gloucester, Mass.

A person was fatally struck by a commuter train Thursday morning in Gloucester, Massachusetts, police said.

A 53-year-old man was found dead at the scene when police and firefighters responded to the call around 6 a.m., Gloucester police said.

The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority confirmed a "trespasser" was hit by a train shortly before 6 a.m. near the Railroad Avenue station.

Commuters on the Rockport Line experieced delays in both directions due to police activity.

To accommodate commuters, the Newburyport Train 153 from North Station was operating on the Rockport branch and making stops in West Gloucester. Shuttle buses were deployed between Railroad Avenue station and the West Gloucester station.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office is investigating, according to police.
