Police in Springfield, Massachusetts, arrested two alleged heroin dealers on Wednesday as result of an on-going investigation.
The lead detective on the case received information that the suspects were about to transport a large amount of heroin from Westfield to Springfield. Detectives followed the dealers from the Toll House Apartments in Westfield to 122 Beauregard Street in Chicopee where they observed the suspects move heroin from a parked car at that address into their vehicle.
Police then followed the vehicle to Springfield where they were delivering the heroin. The suspects ultimately spotted the officers and tried to flee, but police swarmed the car at El Paso Street and St. James Blvd around 12:30 p.m. They arrested 26-year-old Anibal Castro of Springfield and 31-year-old Giovannie Luna of Chicopee. Over 200 bags of heroin were found on Luna.
In addition, police went back for the stash in Chicopee. They discovered 9,620 bags of heroin along with a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun that was reported stolen in Westfield this year.
The suspects are charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, violation of a drug free park zone, trafficking a Class A substance, possession of a firearm without an FID, receiving stolen property over $250, possession of ammunition without an FID card, leaving a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, and a firearm with one violent prior to violent crime.
Castro and Luna were held overnight pending their arraignment in Springfield District Court.
