Police Arrest Man Wanted in String of Bank Robberies in Western Massachusetts

A Springfield, Massachusetts, man is facing charges related to a string of recent bank robberies.

Joseph Richey, 35, was arrested Thursday at a Red Roof Inn in Enfield, Connecticut, after leading police on a motor vehicle chase near the Massachusetts-Connecticut border.

He was expected in court later in the day in Connecticut on drug charges, and will appear at a later date in Massachusetts on warrants out of Agawam, Chicopee, Holyoke, Ludlow and West Springfield for charges related to robberies in those communities.

Richey was wanted in connection to a bank robberies on July 6 and 7 in Agawam and Chicopee, respectively. He is also a suspect in a convenience store in West Springfield. Information on the Holyok and Ludlow charges were not immediately available.

"This is a great example of multiple law enforcement agencies combining forces to get a very dangerous individual off our streets," Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said.
