Police Investigate Attempted Kidnapping at Daycare Center

Around 9:15 a.m., police responded to 17 Dartmouth Street for the report that a man had kicked the front door open and was attempting to take a child. Upon arrival, the door to the daycare was locked, prompting police to make a forced entry.

The suspect, later identified as Sandro Corbelli of Somerville, was found holding a one-year-old female child. Police say Corbelli had the child in a bear hug and that she was visibly in distress. The child was not related to the suspect, police said.

Officers were able to secure the child in approximately one minute. Police then tackled Corbelli to the ground as he resisted arrest.

During the struggle, Corbelli managed to grab the officer's gun. One officer was injured as police attempted to subdue the suspect.

Corbelli is charged with kidnapping, assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and breaking and entering. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation after the incident, according to police.
