Police: Man Stole Two Diamond Necklaces Worth $7,000

Police say a 67-year-old man stole two diamond necklaces worth nearly $7,000 from a Massachusetts jewelry store.

Northampton police say the man walked into Silverscape Designs on Friday and talked with employees about engagement rings.

Police say the man grabbed the necklaces when the employees weren't looking and left.

Police found a man matching the suspect's description a few hours later and arrested him.

The department says the man had a receipt from a pawn shop in Springfield and a bus pass to Springfield around the time of the theft.

The necklaces have not been recovered.

The suspect, whose name was not made public, is scheduled to appear in court Monday on a charge of larceny over $1,200 and heroin possession.
