Police: Massachusetts Shoplifter Treated for Hypothermia

Police say the patient stole from the CambridgeSide Galleria and tried to escape by jumping into the Charles River.

A shoplifting suspect is being treated for hypothermia after trying to escape by jumping into the Charles River on Christmas Eve, police said.

According to police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the male suspect stole from the CambridgeSide Galleria before trying to flee.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was only in the water for a short time, police said. Crews dropped a ladder into the river and he climbed out on his own.

He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to be treated.

The patient will be charged after his release from the hospital.
