Police Seek Driver in Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Amherst, Massachusetts

Police are seeking the driver of a green truck that struck and killed a person waiting at a bus stop on Sunday night in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Police said the truck was traveling downtown around 9:30 p.m. with no headlights on at a high rate of speed when it drove up onto the sidewalk and through a covered bus stop in front of 141 North Pleasant Street.

William E. Wanczyk, 55, of Northhampton, who was seated inside the bus stop, was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.

The vehicle, which was abandoned near the crash site, was heavily damaged. The operator fled and has not been found.
