Pharmacy Tech Charged With Pill Theft Now Driving School Bus

A former pharmacy technician charged with stealing thousands of pills when she was working at a Massachusetts hospital will continue working as a school bus driver as she awaits trial.

The Salem News reports that 50-year-old Lisa Tillman pleaded not guilty in October to larceny of drugs after she allegedly stole approximately 18,000 pills including OxyContin, Percocet and fentanyl over a 13-month period while working at Beverly Hospital's main campus and satellite locations.

Beverly Hospital initially suspended Tillman in March and she is no longer employed there.

But the Essex County District Attorney's Office said Tillman was employed as a driver for North Reading Transportation Bus Inc., where she transports students, according to the Salem News. Her attorney said her client was hired in April after obtaining a commercial driver's license.

Prosecutors pushed to keep Tillman from continuing to work as a school bus driver.

But Tillman's lawyer said her employer knew about the pending charges when she was hired and that she needs to work to support her teenage son.

Judge Randy Chapman allowed Tillman to continue working as a bus driver, but said she had to submit two drug screenings a week. She was already subject to random screenings from NRT Bus.

Chapman also said Tillman must get a letter from the company expressing their awareness of the charges against her.

Tillman is due back in court Jan. 30.
