Report: Mass. Employer Cutting Nearly 7K Jobs by 2020

The cuts are part of an on-going push by the financial services company to focus on technology

One of Massachusetts’ largest employers is planning to cut thousands of jobs over the next several years.

Our partners at the Boston Business Journal say State Street will eliminate upwards of 7,000 positions through 2020.

The cuts are part of an on-going push by the financial services company to focus on technology.

Earlier this month, hundreds of high-level employees were cut.

In a statement, State Street says in part, "We will continue to evaluate the needs of the organization to advance our long-term strategic priorities and continually look for ways to better align the organization. But we will also continue to hire in key areas of the business that are growing, such as data and analytics, or in areas where we need to add expertise."
