Reported Shark Sighting at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts Turns Out to be Dogfish

An employee with the harbormaster's office pulled the small shark from the water

A shark sighting off Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on Tuesday afternoon turned out to be a dogfish.

The sighting was first reported around 11 a.m. An employee with the harbormaster's office walked into the water, grabbed the dogfish, and pulled it out of the water.

Dogfish are small sharks that are abundant in New England waters.

Swimmers were originally told to clear the water, but have since been allowed to return.

The Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center is reportedly trying to revive the 3-foot animal.

Earlier this month, the Coast Guard had to rescue a fisherman after he was bitten on the arm by a dogfish off the Gloucester coast.
