Several Massachusetts Sites Submitted to National Register

Several Massachusetts buildings have been approved for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.

Secretary of State William Galvin says the Massachusetts Historical Commission approvals include the First Baptist Church in Northborough; the Lowney Chocolate Factory in Mansfield; and Union Station in Walpole. Galvin is the commission's chairman.

The First Baptist Church building was constructed in 1860. The Italianate-style church replaced an earlier Baptist meetinghouse on the same site.

The chocolate factory, which has several buildings the oldest of which dates to 1903, is currently being rehabilitated for rental housing, as well as commercial and light industrial uses.

Union Station is a wood-framed building constructed in 1893 that is still in use.

The nominations will be submitted to the National Park Service in Washington for final consideration.
