A Boston Police officer who is still recovering after getting shot in the face by a suspect says he dreams of one day returning to the police force.

According to the Boston Herald, John Moynihan is still doing intense rehab to bring back his hearing and balance after he was shot in the face last month at a traffic stop in Roxbury. He underwent surgery to remove the bullet.

Moynihan recalls that night, saying in part, "I thought he was going to punch me, but then I saw his gun come up. I tried to knock it away, but he still managed to get me in the cheek and I went down like a bag of rocks. When he picked up the gun to finish me off, the unit did what it had to do."

Moynihan was shot below his right eye. Police returned fire and the suspect, Angelo West, who had a history with violence towards law enforcement, was killed in the shooting. A middle-aged woman was also caught in the crossfire as she drove by, suffering a flesh wound to her right arm. Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said that she was fine and in good spirits.

During his recovery, Officer Moynihan got a visit from Vice President Joe Biden Monday and warm wishes from the President, who were both in the area for the Kennedy Institute dedication.
