Stabbing, Robbery in Brookline, Massachusetts, Under Investigation

The stabbing victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital

Authorities in Massachusetts are investigating a stabbing and robbery in Brookline.

Brookline police officers responded to the scene on Vernon Street for a reported robbery in progress just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday, where a man was found with non-life threatening stab wounds.

Surveillance footage from a nearby nursing home is grainy, but it shows the unprovoked attack on the man while he was walking his dog.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was stabbed three times. His phone was stolen.

"It was from behind, so the resident didn't even see the individual coming," said Brookline Police Deputy Superintendent Michael Gropman. "The resident did try to resist, and we believe that's what led to the stabbing."

"I just remember hearing someone screaming 'Help! Help!' across the street," said neighbor Emily Lew. "By the time I made it to my window, I didn't see anyone."

The suspect was described as a clean shaven man about 26 years old, and was wearing dark pants and a dark puffy jacket or hoodie with a logo on the front. The suspect was last seen running on Vernon Street toward Park Street.

The man who was stabbed was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Brookline Police.
