Study: Child Care in Massachusetts Costs More Than College

From diapers to bottles to doctor visits, parents already have a lot on their plates when a new baby arrives, but exactly how much does child care cost?

A new study finds infant care in Massachusetts costs more per year than in-state tuition for a four-year public college. And, infant care costs 15.3% more than average rent in the Bay State.

The average annual cost of infant care in Massachusetts is $17,062.

Massachusetts is ranked 2nd out of 50 states and the District of Columbia for most expensive infant care.

Infant care for one child would take up 19.5% of a typical family's income in Massachusetts.

The data comes from the Economic Policy Institute.
