Suspect Arrested in Jaimee Mendez's Murder

A man has been arrested in Virginia after being secretly indicted by a grand jury in the murder of a Massachusetts woman, authorities announced Tuesday.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jason Fleury was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Hampton, Virginia, as a fugitive from justice on charges in the murder of 25-year-old Jaimee Mendez of Swampscott, last seen alive early November 2014.

Authorities say Fleury was secretly indicted by an Essex county grand jury last Friday charging him with Mendez's murder.

Fleury is expected to be arraigned on fugitive from justice charge in in Hampton General District Court on Wednesday. If he waives extradition, he'll be taken to Massachusetts to be arraigned in Salem Superior Court for Mendez's murder, authorities said.

Mendez was last seen on Nov. 6, 2014. Her remains washed ashore on King's Beach in Swampscott on Jan. 28.
