Plainville police say officers responded to a Target store Sunday morning for a report of shoplifting

A suspected shoplifter who police say struck a Plainville, Massachusetts officer with his car faced a judge Monday.

Plainville police say officers responded to a Target store Sunday morning for a report of shoplifting.

Officer Todd Holbrook approached the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Robert Camara Jr., as he got into his car in the parking lot. That's when police say the Camara Jr. put his car in drive and struck Holbrook as he fled from the shopping plaza.

Camara Jr. was arrested in Attleboro Sunday night. He was arraigned Monday, being held on $15,000 cash bail. He was ordered to stay away from Target stores and out of Plainville. He has also been ordered not to drive.

Holbrook was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
