Taxi Thief Held on Bail Following High-Speed Police Chase

Welbert Nasser, 29, was arrested early Monday morning.

A Woburn, Massachusetts, man was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail after he allegedly stole a taxi from Watertown before leading police on a high-speed chase, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Welbert Nasser, 29, was arraigned on charges of larceny of a motor vehicle, failure to stop, speeding, a marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

During the chase on I-90 Westbound early Monday morning, State Police clocked Nasser driving the taxi at speeds of over 100 mph.

Nasser was arrested after attempting to flee the taxi on foot in Springfield, according to Ryan.

Nasser will next appear in court on Wednesday, August 12.
