Ex-Teacher Pleads Not Guilty to Raping 14-Year-Old Student

Police say in October Joaquim Andrade used Facebook to contact a student in his class and said he would take her to her soccer game

A former Brockton, Massachusetts, science teacher has pleaded not guilty to raping a 14-year-old student.

The Enterprise reports that Joaquim Andrade, a Scituate resident, was arraigned in Superior Court on Wednesday faces eight charges including forcibly raping a child and aggravated rape and abuse of a child.

Police say in October the 57-year-old Andrade used Facebook to contact a student in his class and said he would take her to her soccer game.

Prosecutors say Andrade picked her up, sexually assaulted her, then dropped her off at the game. Prosecutors also say a family member of Andrade has since threatened the student.

Andrade's attorney says the family does not know who contacted the victim.

He remains free on bail and his lawyer says Andrade poses no danger.
