Teen Charged in Brutal Rape Arraigned

A teen charged with raping another teen, leaving her to cling to life in a driveway this winter in Everett, Massachusetts, appeared in court Wednesday.

Sami Sherif, 19, of Everett, was arraigned on one count of rape, four months after an 18-year-old woman was found unresponsive, suffering from severe hypothermia.

A resident of the property reported finding her on March 7 with her clothing in disarray, with blood scattered around her.

The victim was hospitalized in "extremely critical condition," and was given just a 30 percent chance of survival. Within weeks, though, she recovered and returned home.

Later that month, Sherif was arrested for the attack. A grand jury indicted him in June.

After his arraignment, Sherif posted $5,000 bail. He has been ordered to have no contact with the victim or any witnesses for the prosecution. He must also wear a GPS bracelet and stay home between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
