Teen Critical After Weekend Crash in Maine

Police say the crash involving the 17-year-old Cape Elizabeth High School student occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday on Old Ocean House Road

A southern Maine teen is listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a single-car accident that occurred over the weekend in Cape Elizabeth.

Police say the crash involving the 17-year-old Cape Elizabeth High School student occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday on Old Ocean House Road.

The boy's 2006 BMW sedan failed to make a turn along a curve in the road and crashed into some trees. Police say he was wearing a seat belt at the time.

Police Chief Neil Williams says speed appears to have been a factor in the accident, but it's not yet known whether alcohol was involved.

Cape Elizabeth High School was opened Sunday for students to meet for support.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
