Police in Mashpee, Massachusetts, say 13-year-old Jeremiah Smith was killed when he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Quinquisset Avenue at the intersection of Mashpee Neck Road.
Police say the driver, 55-year-old Constantinos Mitrokostas of Mashpee stopped and tried to help Smith.

Mitrokostas was very upset by what happened, but is cooperating fully with investigators, police add.
Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline would not talk about the circumstances of the accident, but he acknowledges it was dark at the time and that the road can be difficult for pedestrians.
No charges have been filed yet. The deadly crash remains under investigation.
