The Tewksbury Historical Society has begun installing monuments to honor Revolutionary War veterans along a historic walking trail in the northeast Massachusetts town.
The Sun reports the nine granite posts start at the town center and stretch just over two miles to the Billerica town line.
Officials say the path represents the route 97 soldiers took from Tewksbury to fight in the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775.
Tewksbury Historical Society President David Marcus says he hopes residents will walk the trail instead of driving it.
The historical society raised more than $7,000 for the markers and is looking for an additional $6,000 to $7,000 to add educational plaques to each monument.
A dedication ceremony will be held at the Town Common next Sunday.
