The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is updating state gambling regulators on its plans to build a resort casino south of Boston.

The tribe and the Massachusetts Gaming Commission will meet at the tribe's government and community center in Mashpee on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cape Cod-based tribe had more than 300 acres placed into trust by the federal government last year, a decision that's being challenged in federal court by a rival casino developer and local opponents.

The lands include 150 acres in the city of Taunton about 35 miles from downtown Boston and another 170 acres in Mashpee.

The tribe received federal recognition in 2007 but traces its ancestry to the Indians who first encountered the Pilgrims.

The tribe plans to break ground on the $500 million casino project April 5.
