2 Mass. Residents Win $1 Million in Mega Millions

Jennifer Santo, of Dartmouth, claimed her $1M prize on Wednesday

Two lucky Massachusetts residents won $1 million each in the massive Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday night, according to lottery officials.

One winning ticket was sold in Bridgewater and the other in Wilmington, the only two winners in New England.

Jennifer Santo, of Dartmouth, arrived at lottery headquarters in Braintree with her husband Manuel on Wednesday to claim her prize. The nurse, who recently turned 40, received a one-time payment of $1 million (less tax withholdings) after purchasing her ticket at the Cumberland Farms on Main Street in Bridgewater.

Santo told lottery officials she and her husband were grateful for the winnings after losing out on a recent trip and not getting their money back. They plan to use part of the money for their two children's education.

The second Massachusetts winner has yet to come forward.

Officials announced Wednesday morning that the winning ticket of the $1.5 billion jackpot was sold in South Carolina, with 36-second prize tickets sold elsewhere.

Tickets for the massive prize were selling like hotcakes in the state, with approximately 10,000 being sold per minute.

Last week, a Wareham woman won $1 million on a Powerball ticket by buying a ticket at the town’s Stop & Shop store.
