Victim ID'd in Fatal Crash on Route 109 in Medfield, Massachusetts

The victim in a fatal 3-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon in Medfield, Massachusetts has been identified.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on Route 109 near the Shaw's plaza in the area of Pederzini Drive.

Falmouth resident James Tobia, 31, died at the scene.

Investigators are now trying to question one of the three drivers involved in the accident.

Officers saw him speeding down Route 109 moments before the crash happened as they were conducting an unrelated traffic stop.

Aerial footage from the NBC Sky Ranger showed at least one vehicle overturned on its roof. Further down the road, two more vehicles could be seen with heavy damage.

Tobia was driving a Chevy, which was heavily damaged in the accident.

The driver of a Kia was hurt.

And the man behind the wheel of the Jeep is at Tufts Hospital. Police say they've been unable to speak with him because of his condition.

None of the three vehicles involved had passengers.

The wreck and investigation shut down the busy road in both directions during the evening rush hour. Cars were detoured around the area for more than six hours as the state police crash reconstruction team worked to figure out what happened.

The chief says the driver of the Jeep could face charges.
