Mom Charged for Leaving 1-Year-Old With Men Shooting Up Heroin

One of the men the child was left with overdosed and was found dead at the bottom of a stairwell

A New Hampshire mother is facing multiple charges after police say she left her 1-year-old in the care of three men who were shooting up heroin last month.

Samantha Perkins, 27, of 28 Cross St., Apt. 4, Nashua, was arrested Friday on a warrant charging her with one count of possession of a narcotic drug and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Nashua Police said they began investigating after a 50-year-old Nashua man was found dead of an apparent overdose at the bottom of a stairwell in Perkins' apartment building on April 10.

Through the course of the investigation, police said they learned that the victim of the overdose had been in Perkins' apartment with two other men consuming heroin.

Perkins allegedly left her 21-month-old child in the care of the three men as she left to drive her 6- and 7-year-old daughters to another location. Police said Perkins is believed to have been under the influence of heroin at the time.

When Perkins returned home, the victim was moved out of the apartment and left at the bottom of the stairs of the building. A search warrant was executed on Perkins' residence, and a small amount of heroin was found.

Police said their investigation is ongoing. Perkins is free on $10,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Nashua District Court on June 8.
