Well, there's a lot to be thankful for in this pattern. For one, we haven't seen the unrelenting rain that's been hammering the South. Second, we managed to enjoy the mild 60s throughout the weekend along with abundant sunshine. And so, when we say we're getting our "just desserts" with this raw weather, well, we should be this cold and damp this time of year.
Lest we forget, our normal high in the mid 40s, and normal precipiation is 4.3 inches - making it one of the wettest months of the year. So far this month, we've only seen .87 in Boston...that's a lot of water to make up. Thankfully, February and December were both above normal and January was near normal, so we don't have a water shortage...yet.
Waves of rain will move through Southern New England overnight. Northern New England will wrestle with the rain/snow line, with it likely hanging up around Rt. 2 by morning. Temps go virtually nowhere - holding in the mid and upper 30s.
As low pressure cozies up to us in Southern New England, the winds will increase on the Cape and Islands. Some gusts may hit 40-45 mph throught Tuesday morning. As this low moves away tomorrow, the winds will relax and the rain will taper to mist and drizzle. Highs recover just a smidge, closing in on the upper 40s in most spots.
Wednesday we're between weather systems, giving us a chance to dry out and warm up. Some of that warmth should stick around for Thursday as well, giving us a chance to make a solid run at 60 both days (50s more likely along the coast Wednesday).
Cold really wants to take hold going into the weekend. A surge of chilly air should arrive in time for Friday and last into the weekend. Doesn't look like we'll be able to hold back the wet weather either. It is threatening for the Southie Parade.
