NECN Hosting Blood Drive in Boston

The blood drive is 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Copley Square in Boston

Wednesday you can do something that doesn't take long, but could help save a life.

NECN is teaming up with the Kraft Family Blood Center at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital for a blood drive.

The blood drive is 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Copley Square in Boston.

The Kraft Family Blood Center is focused on platelets, the cells that help stop people from bleeding.

Dr. William Savage is the medical director of blood donation and says both Boston hospitals require a combined 30,000 red blood cell units and 10,000 platelet units per year, which means they are always in some kind of shortage.

Savage said, “The blood that we need, it’s always a constant struggle to get people to come through the door to keep that supply strong.
