NH AG: Woman Dies After Being Assaulted by Fellow Nursing Home Resident

An investigation is ongoing regarding a death that occurred at an assisted living facility in New Hampshire.

Authorities responded to the Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith on March 16. Once there, they learned that nursing staff had intervened after a male resident was found in the process of physically assaulting a female resident.

Despite emergency medical treatment, Barbara Whittier, 82, died that day, according to the Attorney General's Office.

Donald Sleeper, 87, had been a resident at Golden View since the fall of 2015. After the incident, Mr. Sleeper, who has severe Alzheimer's dementia, was transported to another medical facility.

The cause of Mrs. Whittier's death has been determined to be hypertensive and coronary heart disease, with a contributing cause of attempted strangulation. The manner of death was homicide.
