NH Nutrition Program for Women, Families Goes Electronic

A pilot program to make it easier for low-income pregnant women and young families to get nutritious food has been expanded statewide.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services first piloted the electronic benefit cards for the Women, Infants & Children's Nutrition Program in Strafford and Carroll counties. With the card, families can purchase food as needed and not all at once like they did with the former paper voucher system. The cards make transactions faster, easier and more secure.

The program has now been rolled out in all counties.

Officials say making the program more customer-friendly and reducing the stigma helps families maintain healthy diets during a critical time of child development and growth.
