‘Shock' for Niece of Slain NH Couple After Reported Arrest in Case

The Butlers had been traveling the United States in an RV since last year, and their deaths left family members heartbroken

The niece of a New Hampshire couple found in a shallow grave last month in Texas this week said the reported arrest of a person wanted in the case may eventually bring the family closure, but it won't ever bring them back.

Members of the family of James Butler, 48, and Michelle Butler, 46, told NBC affiliate KRIS-TV that Adam Curtis Williams was arrested in Jalisco, Mexico. He is one of two people who were wanted in connection with the deaths.

"It's just shock, everything's just shock," their neice, Hayley Van Loon, told us about an hour after she heard the news.

Authorities haven't yet said anyone has been arrested in the case, but this week, authorities released a surveillance photo of Adam Curtis Williams, 33, and Amanda Noverr crossing into Mexico and issued an arrest warrant on felony theft charges for Williams. The pair was believed to have had contact with the Butlers.

"We are hopeful that this will lead us to one more step to finding out what can be done about this. No one should have to go through this," Van Loon said.

The Butlers had been traveling the United States in an RV since last year, and their deaths left family members heartbroken.

"You see things like this on TV and you say, 'Those poor people, they're going through hell,' and you just can't even imagine it, and you just never, ever, ever think it's going to be you," said James' sister, Deborah Van Loon, this week.

The couple was reported missing on Oct. 23 and found dead four days later.
