Sanders Not a ‘Fringe Candidate' Anymore

The Vermont senator is enjoying leads in both Iowa and New Hampshire in new polls

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders visited New Hampshire Thursday on the heels of new polls showing a comfortable lead in both that state and Iowa over Democratic rival Sec. Hillary Clinton Wednesday.

“When we began this campaign about nine months ago, our candidacy was considered to be a ‘fringe candidacy,’” Sanders told supporters in Peterborough.

No one is calling him that these days, with a double-digit lead in the polls in New Hampshire and a surging campaign in Iowa. Instead, Sanders is looking ahead to South Carolina and Nevada, and feeling more confident every day.
