A legislative task force that will spend the next six weeks studying substance abuse issues in New Hampshire is starting its work by hearing from a long list of experts.
The task force was created last week during a special session of the Legislature. The goal is to develop proposals lawmakers will begin debating when the new session begins in January.
During the group's first meeting on Tuesday, members will elect a chairman and other officers before hearing from physicians, law enforcement officials, those involved in drug abuse recovery programs and first responders.
The group is expected to tackle topics such as insurance coverage for treatment, drug courts, strengthening the state's prescription drug monitoring program, boosting law enforcement, cracking down on fentanyl dealers and continuing education for opioid prescribers.
