New Recommendations for State Medical Marijuana Program

Officials are considering adding six new conditions to the state’s Medical Marijuana Program.

The Department of Consumer Protection announced Monday that the Board of Physicians discussed six new conditions and released recommendations that were accepted by the commissioner. The recommendations are as follows.

  • Chronic Pain: Tabled for a future meeting
  • Interstitial Cystitis: Recommended for Adults
  • Intractable Neuropathic Pain that Is Unresponsive to Standard Medical Treatments: Recommended for Adults and Patients Under 18
  • MALS Syndrome (Medial Arcuate Ligament Syndrome): Recommended for Adults
  • Tourette Syndrome: Recommended for Adults, and recommended as “Tourette Syndrome for patients who have failed standard medical treatment” for Patients Under 18
  • Vulvodynia and Vulvar Burning: Recommended for Adults

The board plans to hold a follow-up meeting to discuss the potential addition of chronic pain and how it will be defined if added to the program.

The other five conditions are set to be added to the Medical Marijuana Program regulations, but are subject to the approval of the Regulations Review Committee of the General Assembly.

The program already covers dozens of conditions for over 30,000 patients, according to DCP.
