Manchester, New Hampshire, Mayor Ted Gatsas is joining the Republican race for governor. He joins two Republicans and two Democrats who are also running to replace outgoing Gov. Maggie Hassan.
Gatsas says he'd work to combat the state's drug crisis, lower health care costs, give local communities more control over schools and create a stronger climate for economic development. He has been highly critical of what he calls Hassan's ineffective response to rising drug overdose deaths.
Gatsas was elected to his fourth term as mayor of New Hampshire's largest city in 2014. He previously served in the state Senate.
Executive Councilor Chris Sununu and Rep. Frank Edelblut are also seeking the GOP nomination. On the Democratic side, Councilor Colin Van Ostern and former state securities regulator Mark Connolly are running.
