N.H. Police Chief Faces Sexual Assault Charge

The New Hampshire attorney general says John Laroche was arrested Tuesday on one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault

The Canterbury police chief has been arrested on a charge of sexually assaulting a teenage girl while he was a police officer in Boscawen, New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire attorney general says John Laroche was arrested Tuesday on one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault.

Laroche could not be reached for comment. It was not immediately known if he was being represented by an attorney.

The attorney general says Laroche was overseeing the Boscawen Police Explorer Program for young men and women interested in law enforcement careers and the victim was a Police Explorer. Laroche is accused of using his authority to coerce the female who was between the age of 16 and 17 at the time in 1999 and part of 2000.

Laroche is expected to be arraigned Wednesday.
