Pedestrian Struck, Killed on I-95 in Wakefield, Mass.

Massachusetts State Police say evidence indicates the man's death was a suicide.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday afternoon on a busy highway in Wakefield, Massachusetts, state police say.

An investigation into the fatal crash near Exit 39 indicates the man's death was a suicide, according to state police.

Troopers responded around 12:30 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian crash on Interstate 95 northbound in the vicinity of the North Avenue exit.

First responders found the victim in the roadway, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not been identified. State police say the man was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta.

The driver of the Jetta, a 20-year-old Vermont man, was not injured, police say.

Officials discovered the victim's vehicle abandoned in the breakdown lane during their investigation. They say the evidence indicates the Massachusetts man's death was a suicide.

Two right lanes in the area of the crash were closed for two hours to accommodate the emergency response and subsequent investigation.

The incident remains under investigation.
