Police: Conn. Trooper Struck on I-91

Traffic is stopped on I-91 in both directions at exit 33 in Hartford after a state police trooper was struck by a car, according to police.

A state police trooper suffered a head injury and several fractures when he was struck by a car while picking up debris Thursday evening on Interstate 91 northbound in Hartford, according to police.

Authorities say Trooper Michael Quaglioroli pulled over to help the driver of a pickup truck who had lost a piece of his bedliner. The trooper and truck driver were on foot near exit 33 when another car came by and struck them both.

The offending vehicle was traveling 50-60 mph at the time of the collision, according to state police. The driver stopped and stayed at the scene.

Police said Trooper Quaglioroli, who has held his position for eight months, is being treated at Hartford Hospital for head injuries and multiple fractures. His condition is not yet available.

The truck driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment, according to police, and is in stable condition.

Interstate 91 has been closed in both directions near Jennings Road and is expected to reopen by 11 p.m.; drivers should expect delays.

The injured truck driver's name has not been released.

The driver who struck the two men hasn't been charged.
