Police: Suicide Threat Prompts School Evacuation

Police say they briefly evacuated a school in Somersworth, New Hampshire, after getting a call about an armed man who threatened to kill himself at a nearby home.

Police say they briefly evacuated a school in Somersworth, New Hampshire, after getting a call about an armed man who threatened to kill himself at a nearby home.

Police said they were alerted to the threat by the man's ex-wife. They said he had a shotgun.

As a precaution, police evacuated the John Powers School at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Students were taken to a high school. No one was hurt.

Police were able to make contact with the 34-year-old man, who surrendered and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police secured some guns and ammunition.

The private school is for students in first through ninth grades.
